Perfection at Any Age
Perfection at Any Age - 20’s
Q: What are some preventative anti-aging options for a young woman in her 20's?
I love DiamondTome Microdermabrasion - it removes dead skin cells and debris from the skin, helps stimulate collagen and elastin and when you use it like a little eraser you can really diminish any imperfection. Also LED light therapy is like magic. The 25 minute "party face" setting on our Max LED machine makes you feel and look like you got a full 8 hours of sleep... and let's be real - who gets 8 hours of sleep in New York?
Q: Is it good for women in their 20's to start using anti-aging products to keep healthy young skin?
A women in her 20's - or any age for that matter - should only use the appropriate products for their current skin type. Using thick and heavy feeling anti-aging creams and serums on a young woman may clog pores and cause a larger problem. But I will say that as far as wrinkles are concerned - a little drop of Botox here and there is not a bad thing! It will help diminish the formation of deep lines later on.
Q: Can you recommend any products for younger women/men?
The dangene products are fantastic. The Serum is like magic in a bottle and the Light Primer feels like silk. Another great thing about the dangene product line is that they can be used on any skin type.
Q: What is a good daily skincare routine for someone in their 20's?
The 20's can be a very important and precarious stage in a person's skincare program. The most important thing to remember is to wash your face, use dangene's Serum and either moisturize or not depending on whether your skin is oily or dry. Also, use an eye cream! Start taking care of your eyes, your neck and your hands - they give away age the fastest.
Q: Are chemical peels ok for someone in their 20's?
Again - it all depends on the person's skin type and particular need. Peels can be great if you have acne, scars or hyperpigmentation but may not be necessary for all people in their 20's.
Q: Does wearing makeup cause aging/wrinkles in any way?
Wearing makeup causes a few different problems. If lines are starting to form, makeup settles into the creases in your skin throughout the day causing an optical illusion that makes the lines seem deeper - making you look OLDER. Also, makeup just clogs pores and can cause acne. So why not just take away every imperfection so that you don't need to wear the stuff!
Q: Can exfoliating your skin help prevent future fine lines/wrinkles? How many times a week should one exfoliate?
Exfoliating can definitely help prevent lines but it must be performed by a professional in a way that is safe for your particular skin type. Exfoliating your skin on your own with too many harsh scrubs will take away your natural dewiness and make you appear old and glassy.
Q: How important is it to wear sunscreen to help prevent future wrinkles and sun damage?
We love zinc around here but we are not fans of SPF. It clogs pores and makes you look dull. Our favorite protection from the sun for those 20-somethings is a sun hat and sunglasses.
Q: Does a moisturizer/serum need to be used around the eyes to help prevent aging?
Starting to use an eye cream before you actually get wrinkles is the best way to prevent aging - so if you haven't started using anything yet, you should!
Q: What are some good habits to get into while you're young that will help prevent signs of aging on your face, back, chest, and hands?
Be happy, drink water and get sleep if you can! Wash, tone and moisturize your face (if you need extra moisture) morning and night and stay away from too much makeup.
Perfection at Any Age - 30’s
Q: What brings on fine lines/wrinkles in your 30’s?
Fine lines and wrinkles can form due to both hereditary causes and habit. Being born with dry skin can cause fine lines and deep wrinkles to begin forming in your 30s - but so will drinking too much alcohol, coffee, smoking cigarettes, taking certain medications, getting too much sun exposure, and too little sleep.
Q: What are some ways to help prevent fine lines/wrinkles?
Get adequate sleep and drink lots of water. Here's our rule - for every cup of coffee or alcohol you drink or cigarette you smoke, drink a glass of water. When you're enjoying the sun wear zinc or a big sun hat and sunglasses. But a daily skincare routine is important too! Use a non-drying cleanser, Serum, and Light Primer such as the dangene product line, and don't forget eye cream!
Q: What are some good procedures for someone in their 30’s?
Since prevention is key, beginning lasers for collagen stimulation along with Botox and filler are great ways to maintain your tight and plump look and don't forget about the quality of your skin - that's where our skin rejuvenation treatments come in. You need extractions, dry and wet micro with oxygen and light therapy to perfect the surface of your skin. This will help to maintain your dermal tissue for an all-around youthful look.
Q: What is a good way to help prevent signs of aging on your neck, chest and hands?
Whenever you're on the beach or really out in the sun, be sure to wear a zinc sun protectant. When doing harsh work with your hands, make sure to keep them hydrated and wear gloves. For your overall face and body, get microdermabrasion and hydration at least once a week and let us burn off any growths or skin tags as they come - they are by far the most aging thing on anyone.
Q: How important is it to always wear sunscreen?
Everyone knows we're not huge fans of SPF but when you're in the sun, wearing zinc based (we love physical blocks) sun protectants is an absolute must.
Q: Are there any products or procedures that can harm your skin and cause damage or aging to your skin?
While applying glycolic acid to the body is fantastic for exfoliating and smoothing out the skin, it is never a good idea to apply it to your face because it is over drying and can cause hyper-pigmentation if your face is exposed to the sun. On that note, do not use any products on your skin that are too drying like benzoyl peroxide.
Q: Is it a good idea for someone in their 30’s to start getting anti-aging treatments?
Yes, because for most, your 30's are the years when aging begins to show, your skin starts to change and those pesky lines start forming.
Q: Can you suggest a good night time routine for someone in their 30’s?
We all love the dangene products, so wash your face, use our Serum, then follow with the Light Primer and never forget your eye cream. It’s also a great idea to use one of our exfoliating potions once a week to remove those dead skin cells and keep your skin glowing.
Perfection at Any Age - 40’s
Q: What are retinoids and how can retinoids help with wrinkles?
Retinoids minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and slow the breakdown of collagen, which helps to keep our skin firm. Retinoids also lighten sun spots caused by sun exposure but be mindful of using them on your own without the direction of a Skinovator. Depending on your skin type, retinoids may cause more harm than good in your 40's, causing your skin to thin prematurely and appear glassy.
Q: What is a good daily skincare routine for someone in their 40's?
Dangene always says to wash my face, apply my eye cream, my serum and moisturizer twice a day and rely on my weekly skin rejuvenation treatments for the real maintenance. If you're on the right program, you really don't need to rely on tons of products to keep your skin looking great and healthy.
Q: What procedures can be done to help get rid of fine lines and wrinkles?
We believe in using skin rejuvenation treatments and laser treatments to stimulate collagen and elastin to soften fine lines and wrinkles, Botox to slow the movement that causes wrinkles in the first place and LED light therapy to keep our skin tight, firm and glowing.
Q: What is a good way to help get rid of aging in your neck, chest and hands?
To maintain the skin on our bodies, we need weekly skin rejuvenation treatments to get rid of any spots and growths and peel away the layers of lifeless lackluster skin. We need laser treatments to stimulate collagen and elastin to keep our body on the same track as our face and a little Botox in your neck and jaw helps to keep it up where it needs to be!
Q: Is it true that a loss of collagen and elastin is greater during these years?
Men and women start losing collagen and elastin at an alarmingly rapid rate after the age of 25. Yikes!
Q: Are there procedures that can help boost the collagen in your skin?
Everything the Skinovators are trained to do helps to boost our collagen and elastin production. From dry microdermabrasion to laser treatments, keeping your cells stimulated is the key to maintaining your youthful look.
Q: Is it true that skin starts to become drier and thinner by the age of 40? If so, what treatments do you recommend?
Dangene and her Skinovators recommend LED lights, skin rejuvenation treatments and our magic potions to rehydrate our skin and laser treatments to plump up our skin.
Q: Can certain ingredients and anti-aging treatments make the skin even drier and more irritated?
Yes, that's why all our programs at the Institute come with a totally customized skincare product routine so that you no longer have to worry about labels.
Q: Is it necessary to use creams and serums to prevent deep wrinkles under the eyes?
Yes! Yes! Yes! Dangene is always saying she started using eye cream when she was 12, so I make sure to never forget it!
Perfection at Any Age - 50’s
Q: What is the best skin care regime for women in their 50’s?
I wish I didn't know this one so well! Wash your face, use eye cream, a serum, moisturizer, and exfoliant twice a day.
Q: What can be done to help reduce the appearance of "crows feet"?
Eye cream, eye cream, eye cream! Did I mention eye cream? Drinking lots of water, getting lots of sleep and being really happy... and using eye cream!
Q: Can surgical or laser procedures help with dark circles or bags?
No, but oxygen therapy and LED light therapy can.
Q: What are "age spots"?
Unsightly age spots were once small spots that were never removed and left forgotten. Over time, small spots grow into larger spots. That's why it's important to remove them when they're small to avoid developing the dreaded age spot.
Q: What types of products/procedures can be done to help get rid of age spots?
During our Skin Rejuvenation Treatments we perform microdermabrasion, peels, laser treatments and we use retinol products that can diminish the appearance of age spots. Keep in mind that wearing zinc when exposed to the sun will help prevent the formation of new ones!
Q: Are there any products/treatments for people in their 50’s that will help boost collagen?
My favorite is the dangene Serum and our “triplicate”, a totally customizable in-house potion that peels away dull, lackluster skin, diminishes sun damage and old acne marks while making your skin firmer, tighter and brighter.
Q: Is it important to exfoliate in your 50's? If so, how many times a week should it be done?
It is very important in your 50’s to exfoliate and keep the cells active. Clinical exfoliation, like microdermabrasion is recommended once a week.
Q: Being that the skin doesn’t produce as much natural oils at 50+ years old, what would be a good product/procedure to help fight wrinkles?
Using dangene's gentle cleanser, eye cream, the dangene Serum, and Light Primer is a good way to keep the skin in balance. Skin rejuvenation treatments, laser treatments, LED light therapy and a drop of Botox here and there help to reduce the formation and appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Q: What are some ways to get rid of fine lines/wrinkles around the mouth?
Keep your mouth moist all the time by using lip gloss and lip balm to prevent more fine lines and wrinkles from forming. Doing microdermabrasion, peels, laser treatments, and LED lights will help soften the appearance of lines that have formed, while injecting a drip of Botox could help slow the movement of muscles that cause lines and wrinkles.
