Meet Sharon Grelsamer, Skinovator, resident laser genius, and a dyed-in-the-wool New Yorker who combines a medical background with a fine eye for beauty and precision.
We are introducing you to Sharon as part of our ongoing series spotlighting the unique talents and personalities of our Skinovators.
Tell us about your background and education.
I grew up with an orthopedic surgeon father and I married an orthopedic surgeon, so it seemed only natural for me to join the medical profession. I attended Columbia University’s School of Nursing and worked in orthopedics. After taking some time off to raise my children, I turned to skincare when I rejoined the workforce because I was starting to think about aging. I learned Derma Planing from Donna Messinger, then went back to school and received my aesthetician’s training at Atelier Esthetique.
What excites you about lasers and anti-aging treatments at the Institute?
What I love about lasers and today’s technology is that there is no need for anyone to look “old.” In fact, caring for your skin actually makes it healthier. By making the skin less red and pigmented, and by stimulating cell turnover and collagen production, we make the skin fresher, smoother, clearer and younger looking. But looking fresh and vibrant takes effort. I like to think of myself as a personal trainer for your skin, and, depending on your goals, this requires regular visits.
What are your personal feelings about your profession?
My greatest reward is helping people feel good about themselves. That’s what drew me to Dangene: her profound desire to help people, whether they’re struggling with acne or scarring or just want to look and feel their best. Dangene’s dynamic, exuberant, and generous nature is an inspiration to me, and there’s no one like her! I feel fortunate to work with the Skinovators, a team of intelligent, loving, and talented people.
What do you like to do when you’re away from the Institute?
I love taking advantage of New York’s wonderful cultural events, and I’m involved in a few charities. I’m also a big animal lover. In fact, I have two dogs, a cat, and a horse, and I worked as a docent at the Central Park Zoo for five years!
We love Sharon’s energy, kindness, and unparalleled skills, and we’re immensely proud to have her on the Skinovation team. To learn more about dangene and the Skinovators, or to book an appointment, please call the Institute at 212 249 8172 or email us.
